Travel Alone for Women in India is a Herculean Task

India is a country where women are worshipped as Goddesses, but in recent time, it has seen some adversity and to believe this fact, we need to rewind the history. Being a woman and travelling alone in India is bit unsecure and one has to undergo a lot of trouble.

Murders, rapes and eve teasing of women happen on trains and buses while travelling along. In such situation, women have to take extra care and have to keep the presence of mind to recognize what the things are going in and around them.

Travelling in India alone for women can be prodigious task. You cannot escape from the wandering eyes of some men, who get some brutal kick out for staring at a lecherous manner at women. We live in a country where social conservatism is still prevalent and due to the social conservatism, women should be educated on how they handle themselves in public. It is very important that they learn some of the tips to be safe while travelling alone in India.

Watch What You Wear

It is very important that you restrict yourself from wearing skin tight cloths and short skirts. These short of dresses attract unwanted attention from others. Go for simple clothes like salwar with a dupatta/shawl. You can also wear jeans and kurta but don’t forget to carry a shawl with you.

Do not indulge in conversation with strangers

Women are also social being and they also love to know about different things that come across while travelling. We can understand that you love to be socializing, but avoid this while travelling all alone. Keep to yourself and try not to make conservation with other and if someone does manage to bother you and try to get into conservation, keep it to least and do not give any personal information about yourself.

Keep an Eye on Your Belongings

In India this proverb is quite familier, when it comes to handling of luggage. Elders often make youngsters aware about how to handle their belongings while out for travel to new places and they often repeat this proverb “Aankh Baand Dibba Gayab”. This is India my dear! Things usually disappear before you manage a “Namaste”. You need to keep eye on your belongings and be vigilant all the time.

Love your wallet Keep your wallet very close to you at all times. Also, keep money in different pockets and bags. If in case there is unfortunate incident, you will still have some money with you to handle the situation.

Boost Your Confident

Don’t make anyone feel that you are travelling to any particular place for the first time. Be confident and act like you know what are you doing and where are you going. Don’t low your head or dim your voice.

Do not borrow anything from anyone

While travelling, don’t accept or give anything to anyone. If any strangers gives you fruits or biscuits, politely decline and enjoy staying at your seat. If you are near the railway station and watching the ads that runs constantly spreading awareness to the passenger what not to do while travelling in a train. Hope you understand what I mean.

Do Stay in Corner Be in a Group Where Women are there

When you feel that you are in the corner of the train or bust with a man, leave that place and be there where women are around. If you feel uncomfortable with the person sitting next to you, please ask for seat change or negotiate with other passangers for seat change.

Travel light the Real Mantra

Always travel light as you are travel all alone. You not only have to manage these bags and luggages, but you also have to take care of yourself. Don’t carry lots of liquid money or jewellery.
