Nagin Lake, One Of The Most Picturesque Lakes Of Kashmir

Nagin Lake is another scenic lake of Kashmir, located on the eastern part of the valley. This pristine lake is located at the foothill of the Zabarwan Mountain and is surrounded by several numbers of willow and poplar trees.

The Nagin Lake is abounded by Shankaracharya hill to the south and Hari Parbat to the west. The lake is considered to be the most beautiful one among the Dal Lakes. It is separated from the later Dal Lakes by only a narrow causeway.

Special Attraction

The prime attraction of this lake is its houseboats. The lake offers some of the finest Super Deluxe Houseboats in the region and are much less crowded than the ones in Dal Lake. All the houseboats that are found at this lake are attached with a garden area that adds to the scenic beauty of this lake. One will certainly have a luxurious time while staying at the houseboats of this lake as they are equipped with indoor living area, dining area and bedrooms with attached western bathrooms. The living rooms and common areas of these houseboats are made even more comfortable with the installation of heaters, TV, large comfortable beds, attached with a well equipped bathroom. As for the food while staying at these houseboats, one choose from the long list of delicious Indian, Chinese; Continental and Kashmiri dishes that are served to the tourists from the in-house kitchen attached to the houseboat.

Activities

The Nagin Lake facilitates many other amenities within its premises. As the water at this lake is much deeper and comparatively less polluted than the Dal Lake, the place is a perfect place for swimming. One can also opt to hire the fiberglass sailing boats and enjoy the water skiing facilities. The motorboats are rather low powered for skiing although they make a good attempt to provide enjoyment to the tourists. In case, you choose to try water skiing at this lake, do watch out for swimmers in the water of the lake. As for the ones enjoying a swim at this lake, they should keep a safe distance from the motor boats.

On the bank of the Nagin Lake, there is a Nagin club, which holds a bar and a tea pavilion. The club is the branch of the Srinagar club that offers temporary membership to its visitors.

The best time to visit this place is from June to August.

By Road: The Lake is easily accessible by taxi from airport and railway station and other chief places in Srinagar. The place is also well accessible through many tourist buses that ply from several neighboring cities to Srinagar. As the lake is located in Srinagar, the city is well linked with many important places of India like Chandigarh, Jammu, Delhi, Leh and Pahalgam through tourist bus services.

By Rail: the nearest railway station to this lake is Srinagar railway station or Nowgam railway station. These stations are well connected with different parts of the country.

By Air: The nearest airport to this lake is Srinagar Airport which links the city with several other airports of the chief cities in India.
